Description
The neon majorette sign now graces the entrance to a strip mall on St Charles Rock Road in St Ann Missouri. At night you can see her marching in place and twirling her baton. I am grateful that the developer saved and restored the old sign. It used to say "Airway Drive In", but now says "Airway Centre". Some of the surrounding glass block pylons were saved and restored as well.
The Airway Drive-In was a 1,000-car (some sources claim only 800) movie theater, that was built around 1949. The theater's screens and concession stands were torn down in 1986 after the theater closed, according to Wehrenberg Theatres, which bought it from General Cinema in 1974.
