The former Stumpf/Consumers/Griesedieck Bros./Falstaff Brewery near the intersection of Gravois (Route 66) and Lemp Avenue has a rather tangled history, which still isn't clear to me.  It was originally Consumers Brewing Co which was in business from 1896 to 1911.  Because of that, I am assuming this building was built in 1896.  In any case, the complex later became Falstaff Brewing Company plant #10.  It was the largest Falstaff plant in the St. Louis area and was the last one in the area to close in 1977.

The Lemp brewery and the Anheuser-Busch brewery are located not far away.  This was a popular area to build a brewery because there are caves underneath that were used for refrigeration prior to the introduction of artificial, steam-powered refrigeration.
