Description

Henry's Rabbit Ranch at 1107 Historic Old Route 66 Staunton, Illinois,  September 2016.

This is where I wanted to start our tour of Route 66 on this outing.  I thought my wife would get a kick out of it.  She did, and so did I.

The "Ranch" isn't exactly "Vintage 66" .  I don't know what year it got started, but  Rich and Linda Henry conceived the notion to build the place in 1993 when they took a trip out to California on Route 66.  At the time they thought there was a dearth of visitor centers along the route.  Around the same time, their daughter adopted a pair of bunnies while living in a single room apartment.  The population spill over ended up at her parent's home.  The combination of the two events created Henry's Rabbit Ranch.

The main building is made to look like an old gas station.  They were perhaps too successful because the EPA came to look for buried gas tanks and contaminated soil.

In addition to the rabbit pens, there is a variety of Route 66 "stuff", old cars, gas pumps, business signs and a semi truck with two of Campbell's "humpin' to please" trailers.
