Kaes House Trip 6

Description

Out buildings near the Kaes House. carrollscorner.net/endangered_…  Someone posted that these were corn cribs.  They do look like they might be, but I've never seen any this big.  On these old farms, the corn cribs were usually the first things to fall apart.  Someone took a neat picture of the inside of one of these.  Wish I had thought of that.  Just a word of caution, that second building appears very near collapse.  Someone braced it with a large log, without which i think it would fall over.

i got a little lost twice while driving to the area and once again trying to find my way out.  Public roads will take you to within a quarter mile of the place, but if you want to park the closest designated area is maybe a mile away (we parked closer than that).  But the hike shouldn't be much of an issue because it would be 99 percent on public biking/hiking trails.  We did have to cross some railroad tracks right before we reached the house.  Amtrak went by while we were there :) .

We didn't have any problem with the neighbors, but they might not have been home at the time.  I can see why the neighbors might get irate.  Looking at a map, the easiest route appears to be up their long driveway and next to their house.  We stayed off their property.  They probably also have to be alert to possible visits from vandals or thieves who would be a threat to their own property as well.

The land that the Kaes house is on is park property and I didn't see any sign that we might be trespassing.  Although crossing the tracks might be an issue with the railroad.
