Description

Missouri State Penitentiary, Jefferson City Missouri. May 4th 2016.

This is the inside of A-Hall.   I was trying to get some shots that didn't have everyone from the tour group wandering around.

From the pages of Wikipedia, "In 1868, A-Hall, also known as Housing Unit A and Housing Unit 4, was finished. The building was constructed of stone quarried on site and built mainly by inmates. Warden Horace Swift was the architect of the structure. It is still standing today, and housed inmates until the day the prison was closed".

The Missouri State Penitentiary operated from 1836-2004 and was the oldest operating penal facility west of the Mississippi River. It was replaced by the Jefferson City Correctional Center.

Nice picture. That's agreat angle. It looks peaceful. Buildings like this aren't appreciated by people because they don't see it crammed with America's worst that turns a once quiet prison into a violent monster with moving parts.
