Description

Nature’s Acres on Route 66 near Catoosa Oklahoma, October 2016.

This is the "Ark" where children used to have birthday parties.

The whole park closed in 1988, but at that time the Blue Whale was the main draw.  I believe most of the animal attractions were closed before that.

Hugh Davis lived on this property before he built Nature's Acres.  He had worked for the Tulsa Zoo for 38 years and was the zoo's director when he retired.  After he retired he wanted to put together something so the the local children could learn more about animals.  First he built the Ark that had cute painted animals where children would have birthday parties.  The ark was later used as a concession stand.  He then built the Alligator Ranch which then turned into Nature’s Acres.  Natures Acres had (in addition to the alligators) snakes and frogs and monkeys and even had a parie dog village.

The blue whale didn't appear until 1972.
