Description

Rogers Landing Public Use Area, on Route 66 near Catoosa Oklahoma, October 2016.

Did you know that Catoosa is a seaport?

The Westbound Route 66 bridge that crossed what was once the Verdigris River was replaced in 2011 by a modern concrete bridge.  Most of the bridge spans found a new home in this park.

The eastbound bridge was not really a twin of the westbound bridge.  The eastbound bridge is four feet wider and was built in 1957.

The bridges originally crossed the Verdigris River, but at some point the river was rerouted as part of the local river navigation/seaport system.

The bridges are now often referred to as the Bird Creek Bridges, but they were once officially know as the H. Tom Knight Jr. Bridges.

The locals called them Felix and Oscar.
